Who we are.

BAARK is an initiative of Altered Carbon Synthetic Biology Pty Ltd (ACN 649 555 993), an Australian company based in Victoria. Altered Carbon Synthetic Biology Pty Ltd is the entity responsible for handling personal information collected through baark.com.au.

What we collect.

When you order a kit or correspond with us, we collect:

  • Your name, email address, postal address, and phone number
  • Your pet's name, species, breed, age, weight, and any clinical context you choose to share
  • Payment information, handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card details on our systems
  • Sample collection and sequencing data linked to the kit identifier you receive
  • Standard web analytics: IP address, browser type, pages visited, referring URL

How we use it.

We use your information to process your order, deliver the kit, return the sequencing report, communicate with you about your order, and improve the service. We do not sell personal data to third parties. We may use de-identified, aggregated sequencing data for internal reference cohort development and for published research, in line with the consent options on the order form.

Your sequencing data.

Raw sequencing reads and the derived report are linked to a kit identifier rather than directly to your name in our analytical systems. You can request a copy of your raw data, request deletion of your account and associated identifiable data, or request that your de-identified data be excluded from any research use, at any time, by writing to hello@baark.com.au.

How we store it.

Data is stored on infrastructure located in Australia, with appropriate access controls, encryption in transit and at rest, and routine backup. Access to identifiable customer data is restricted to BAARK personnel who need it for their role.

Your rights.

Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, and lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you believe your privacy has been breached.
